Deal with an active leak before sending a form

If water is escaping and causing damage, seek urgent plumbing help. If you can safely reach and operate your internal stop tap, turn off the water supply. Do not force a valve that will not move. WaterSafe provides guidance on finding and using the stop tap; its advice is linked below.

Do not wait for our normal enquiry response when water is spreading. In a flat, also contact your landlord or managing agent where appropriate, especially if other homes or shared areas may be affected.

Describe where the water appears

For a routine repair request, distinguish a drip from the tap spout, water around the base of the tap, and water beneath the sink. These observations help plan an assessment, but they do not establish the cause.

  • Which room and fitting are affected?
  • Does it happen all the time, only while the tap is running, or after the basin drains?
  • When did it start, and is it getting worse?
  • Is there visible damage to the cupboard or surrounding surfaces?

Photos that help plan the visit

Take one wider photo showing the sink or basin and one close-up showing the visible problem. If the cupboard can be opened safely, a photo of the accessible pipework and available working space is useful. Do not undo fittings or remove panels to take a picture.

Include the tap make or model if you already know it. Mention any replacement tap you have bought, but allow us to check suitability before arranging installation. Photos can support an initial estimate; concealed damage or uncertain causes may still need a visit.
