Do not wait when there are signs of danger
Burn marks, buzzing or crackling, overheating and repeated tripping should not be ignored. Stop using affected equipment and seek urgent professional advice. If there is smoke, fire or immediate danger, use the emergency services rather than an online maintenance form.
Do not remove socket covers, open light fittings, touch exposed wiring or repeatedly reset a tripping circuit to investigate the problem. Keep your report to observations you can make safely.
Describe the pattern of the problem
For a routine enquiry, explain whether one light, one room or several areas are affected. Say whether the issue is constant or intermittent and when you first noticed it. Include any recent change, such as a replacement lamp or fitting, without assuming it caused the fault.
- Which light, switch or socket is affected?
- Is there visible damage on the outside of the fitting?
- Does the issue occur at a particular time or while equipment is in use?
- Are you requesting fault assessment or installation of a replacement fitting?
Photograph the outside only
A photo of the outside of the fixture and a wider view of its location can help us understand access. Include the make and model of any replacement fitting you already have, together with its instructions if available.
Do not touch a fitting to test whether it is hot, recreate a fault or take close-up photos if doing so puts you at risk. Report the symptoms you already observed instead.
Electrical repair enquiries through WMB Fix
Choose Electrical and send your postcode and description for enquiries in South Norwood or Croydon. We review the suitable scope and any required qualifications before work is arranged. The request does not certify the installation or confirm a booking.
Our normal aim is an initial response within 24 hours. This is not an emergency response promise, a diagnosis or a guarantee that the repair will be completed within that time.
