Use the same budget basis

Say whether your budget is intended to cover the whole job or labour only. Explain whether you have already bought parts or materials, and provide their details. The proposed price should identify the costs included and any separate items so you can compare it with your available funds.

Standard WMB Fix maintenance labour starts from £70 per hour depending on location, with materials and parts separate. Larger projects receive an individual quotation against their scope. A spending limit helps us discuss options; it does not confirm that every requested job fits within it.

Put your priorities in order

List what needs repairing and what you would like improved, then identify the tasks that matter most. A focused repair and a whole-room upgrade can have very different scopes. Explain which outcome is essential and which finishes are preferences.

  • Identify the problem, room and practical outcome you want.
  • Rank the tasks rather than treating every item as equally urgent.
  • State the amount you want to spend and what it should include.
  • Mention whether the work could be planned in stages.

Choose scope and materials together

A modest budget may suit a smaller scope, a simpler finish or suitable alternative products. The agreed work still needs careful preparation and workmanship. If the full proposal cannot be done properly for the available amount, discuss fewer tasks or stages rather than expecting the same scope at any price.

For higher-specification work, name the design details, products and finish you want. Additional preparation, materials and time should be reflected in the quotation. A more expensive product is a choice within a plan, rather than a guarantee that every other part of the job is included.

Make room for assessment and price changes

Photos and a description help us prepare, but cannot show every concealed condition. Ask which parts of the price can be confirmed and which depend on an assessment. Material availability and supplier prices may also change before purchasing; the quotation should explain the price basis.

If a new issue or product change affects the scope, cost or timing, we explain the effect and discuss the options. Additional work and spending need your agreement. Keep a record of the revised scope so both sides understand the decision.

Finish the conversation with a clear plan

Before booking, understand the tasks included, proposed materials, separate costs and expected next steps. Keep the agreed quotation and any later changes. Tell us who can approve the work if a landlord or managing agent is involved.

Send the description, postcode, useful photos and your priorities through WMB Fix, or call Wojciech directly. The aim is a realistic plan you understand before committing to the work.
